Gwinnett Elects First-Ever Black and Latino Mayors
Gwinnett’s Emerging Leaders
Gwinnett County, which is Northeast of Atlanta and one of the most diverse communities in the entire Southeast, can now say it has its first Mayors of Color.
The city of Norcross will have Mayor-Elect Craig Newton as Gwinnett’s first-ever black mayor. In another Gwinnett city, Loganville, Mayor-Elect Rey Martinez will become Gwinnett’s first-ever Latino mayor. JBM Political Strategies hosted a reception at the The 1818 Club to recognize Mayor-Elect Craig Newton’s accomplishment. “Hosting the reception was really my honor,” said Ray Cobb, owner of JBM. “Gwinnett’s leaders of color are adding to the pool of talented people contributing to the counties success.”
Gwinnett is a majority-minority county, and will celebrate its 200th year anniversary next year. To mark the occasion the County will also swear in two of its next great leaders.
